Hi, I'm Notes... - Building Applications
Category IBM/Lotus
Title: Building Applications (parody of I'm a Mac and I'm a PC advertisement)
Scene: Notes character is on right with a Notes/Domino Development Redbook and a boxed set of Notes/Domino 6.5. Exchange character is on left with a large number of software packages (SQL Server, IIS, Visual Basic, .Net, etc., and piles of books for each).
Notes: Hi, I'm IBM Lotus Notes/Domino.
Exchange: And I'm Microsoft Exchange.
Notes: Ready to start building some applications?
Exchange: You bet... Give me a little time here to get all this software installed, make sure all the servers are talking to each other, configure each package, and then read up on how everything works. It shouldn't take me more than a few weeks...
Exchange: And where's all your tools?
Notes: Oh, this is all I need. Notes/Domino has Designer built in, the web server's already there, all the HTML, LotusScript, Java technologies are already supported out of the box. I'll just install the software and be ready to go in a couple of hours.
Exchange: That's it?
Notes: Yeah, that's it... It all just works. In fact, I'll be demoing an application this afternoon for my customer. So, um... I'm just going to get started, OK?
Exchange: Sure... go ahead... <mumbling – I should have all the packages opened by then...>

Not sure if you're fully up to speed on SharePoint.
You access but you access it via a web browser and/oir it integrates with Office 2000 upwards
That's about all end-users ... instantly

This is the year of Microsoft Office System (http://www.peterdehaas.net/2006/09/amr_research_th.html) With Microsoft SharePoint as the cornerstone and SharePoint Applications (multiligual / fully supportedhttp://www.peterdehaas.net/2006/08/10_sharepoint_a.html). O yes and the next version of SharePoint and new applications just about to be released

"...and I'm sure it will only take a few weeks to install this application on everyone's desktop"

You have a point, however I don't think IBM messaging around Microsoft is any different. I'm still not sure who "invented" FUD but I am sure both sides use it ... I mean the 'moving parts' discussion is getting a bit boring too ...
I'm not assuming everyone uses the latest and greatest, but you have to bare in mind Office System 2003 is there for quite some time now and adoption of SharePoint is increasing every day.

Also, you're assuming that everyone is using the latest and greatest in Microsoft technology to get those benefits. Notes/Domino has had the "out of the box" advantage for a long, long time...
