Nothing like seven day work weeks to make you appreciate weekends...

Category Everything Else
While I'm not ready to drop yet, these seven day work weeks are starting to wear on me.  The last "I'm not logging on and it's not expected" was the July 4th holiday.  Things start to return to a semblance of normalacy starting in August, and I also have a couple vacations coming up between now and the week of Labor Day (first week in September).  My wife and I are taking an Alaskan cruise in less than two weeks, followed by a week down at DisneyWorld in September.  The cruise was a point of contention when my wife first booked it back in January (long story), but now the anticipation of a week away is the only thing keeping me sane...  :)

Gravatar Image1 - Wow did I read that wrong. I read "wife first" as "first wife" -- it really changes the level of explanation you'd expect out of that 'long story'.

I've never been on a cruise. I'm not really the cruise type. I have a hammock. I've had it 15 years now. Every spring I drag it out and set it up, and every fall I put it away. I've never spent more than 15 minutes in it. My neighbor laughed this spring when she saw me bring it out. She doesn't think I'm a hammock sort either.

I can't imagine spending days on a cruise ship.

Gravatar Image2 - My client boss juts left for an Alaskan cruise. I'm envious. I'm also trying to talk my wife into something similar for next year. We havn't had an honest "get away from home for a week" vacation in years.

Just a few minuets with Google Earth and the Alaskan coast and I'm wimpering like a home-sick coon dog.

Gravatar Image3 - This cruise, may I ask the cruise ship line? If it is Holland America, I may have a little something for you that will save you a few dollars.

Gravatar Image4 - Yeah, we all have our own way. This Sunday with Barb and the kids up at her mother's place on the ocean I got to have a nice relaxing day. Up at 0630 and at the fire station by 0715 to help welcome this year's kids to the "Explorer Academy". After going over the new truck with the kids who will be assigned to it all week, I spent a couple of hours helping out with the SCBA training and gear familliarity. The idea is to get them up to speed with how to go from street clothes to fully encapsulated in fire gear and breathing bottled air in 2 minutes and 5 seconds. When they broke for lunch, I came home and rewired the electrical outlet by the pool pump. I went from a hard wired switch controlling the pump a timer system by changing the wire from the pump to a ground plug, then using that with an outdoor timer. Now its 1600 and I'm not sure what I'll do next. ... Maybe jump in the pool for a few minutes to cool off and then go help out with dinner for all those kids.

Enjoy your time off.

Gravatar Image5 - See? If you went on a cruise, you could start by sneaking into their fire control area for a quick orientation. Then you could take your laptop outside of the internet cafe area and try to break into their wireless network. You could also spend some time analyzing their emergency procedures to see where the flaws are.

Vacations are what you make them, my friend...

Gravatar Image6 - I can see how "first wife" would change the entire context...

I understand that everyone has their own ways to relax. For the wife and I, it's either heading down to DisneyWorld or hopping on a cruise ship going somewhere...

Gravatar Image7 - Hi, Greg... It's Norweigan... rats! :)

Jerry... I'm going with little expectations. I always claimed I wasn't old enough yet to go on an Alaskan cruise (stereotyped old people bundled up on the deck chairs). And living in the Northwest, I tend to think "trees, mountains, water.. been there, done that." You could say the whole "isn't nature beautiful?" attitude doesn't have the same impact on me as it does others. I'm more looking forward to just being away.

Of course, I'm willing to be awed and amazed by what I see, too... :)

Gravatar Image8 - No one deserves a VACATION or TWO more then you Computer Dude
