Well... life without a laptop didn't last very long...

Category Everything Else

No, Ian didn't come home...  :-)

I decided that I really didn't like not having a laptop if I'm going to be on the road (i.e., vacation).  So I went out to Fry's today to just "look around"...

Shoulda known *that* wasn't going to work too well!

I came home with a Toshiba S213 laptop, Pentium 4 3.33GHz HT, 15.4" screen, 1GB RAM, 100GB hard drive, DVDRW, and 802.11b/g built in.  And all for the low, low price of $1299!  :)  Throw in a $50 Canon printer that's free after rebate, and I think I did pretty well.

Now if Joe and I present again at Lotusphere this year, I won't end up cutting out the last part of my presentation (Eclipse as an alternative Java IDE for Domino) because my machine was painfully repainting the screen...

Gravatar Image1 - $1300? That's obscene (in a good way).

Yeah, I've decided that going to Fry's is like going to Costco - you have to spend a certain amount of money to get out.

Gravatar Image2 - So, did you ever consider a Mac?

Gravatar Image3 - IKEA works like that for me! Seems that you *only* go in to grab some candles and napkins from the marketplace and come out £100 poorer ;)

It's all down to everything only costing £1 or £2 each so you buy three or four cause they are such good value and when you've done that on a dozen items the bill is in three figures

Gravatar Image4 - Blair... considered and rejected... :)

Seriously, I know that Macs are good choices and that I could have made that work for me. But I really wasn't in the mood to start learning a new OS and becoming familiar with a whole new suite of tools. Much of what I will do with this laptop will be business-related. Most of the business stuff I do is primarily focused on Windows platforms. Hence, I'm still buying Windows...
