Switching my RSS feed reader...

Category Blogging

I've been using Awasu for awhile now, and it's been adequate for the job.  The only thing I haven't liked is that it doesn't handle Atom feeds, and it seems to be overly picky on RSS formatting.  It doesn't take much to cause the feed not to validate and load.

I've seen reference to SharpReader over the last couple of days by a few bloggers, so I decided to try it out.  So far, I like what I see.  The layout is very clean, the nested comments rock, and it seems to be very responsive.  I've transferred over a number of feeds from Awasu to give it a trial run, and I was also able to get a few sites that Awasu wouldn't load to work just fine on the new software.  If all goes well, I may transfer the rest of the stuff over by the weekend...

Gravatar Image1 - Ed: The sites I moved over to RSS from the manual list are duly noted. There will probably always be a few in the manual list that are "RSS-able", but I still enjoy reading them in context.

Johan: Thanks for the tip. For my particular situation, having a client-based reader probably works best. I'm still not enamored with the online blog reader model. Of course, maybe I'll make the change of readers an annual event.

Gravatar Image2 - Be sure to update your "Reading via RSS" blogroll... other sites are depending on it.

Gravatar Image3 - I definitely recommend SharpReader. It's fast and has a clean UI.

Gravatar Image4 - Check out the online feed reader Bloglines, http://www.bloglines.com! I used Sharpreader before, and liked it, but since I have two computers at home, and have different customers with their separate machines, I was annoyed by the fact that the read marks where local. Now, I can read the feeds whereever I am, even via Opera in my SonyEricsson P800
