The Oregon Primary was held yesterday...

Category Everything Else

It doesn's surprise me that Kerry won the Democractic side for President with 81% of the vote.  It scares me that 2% of the voters (8365) cast a ballot for Lyndon LaRouche.  <shudder />

Gravatar Image1 - Iowa? Not too north-eastern. Not to mention all the Southern states that vote early (Super Tuesday isn't as big a deal as it was in the 80's, but still carries a lot of electoral votes).

But aside from nit-picking on geography, I gotta agree. I had a sneaky idea just now - let the primary season be as long as it is now (the theory behind the long primary season, I believe, is that the candidates need to personally campaign in every state), but don't release the results until all state primaries are over. Ha! Now that'd be fun!

Gravatar Image2 - True, true... Any vote that wasn't for Bush or Kerry at this point is more protest than anything else. Dean could sweep the rest of the primaries, and what would it accomplish? Not much.

It would be nice to see a three or four month campaign period, and then a single day when all states have their primaries... sorta like Election Day. I'm sure there's probably some technical or philosophical reason why that won't work, but it sure sounds practical to me.

Gravatar Image3 - Primary elections are a bit unfair. It's always those north-eastern states that get to cast their ballots first, and influence the whole process.
