Life can change in an instant...

Category Everything Else
Yesterday I got a call from my wife as I was waiting to catch the bus home.  She called to say that she wasn't going to the movies after work, as a coworker and close friend had found out that afternoon that her daughter had been killed in a traffic accident.  http://www.katu.com/news/local/45166892.html  In less than one day you go from having a daughter who is a senior in high school with bright plans for the future, to planning her funeral.

It's a reminder that every moment is tenuous, and nothing is guaranteed.

Side note...  looking at the comments, I never cease to be amazed at how utterly crass and uncaring people can be under the cover of anonymity.  I hope I am constantly reminded that behind every posting and story there is a real human being with feelings not unlike my own.  Understanding and caring is such a rare commodity these days...

Gravatar Image1 - Tom,

Sorry to hear this very sad news. I had read about it in The Columbian as just another story. Your blogging about gave the story a totally different meaning to me.

My sympathies to the families.

Gravatar Image2 - That is one of the worst bits of news anyone can get.

On the 6th of June, it will be the 16th years since the same thing happened to my family. My nephew was home just a week from his first year of college when he was struck and killed. It is beyond horrible.

My thoughts and prayers are with the your friend's family. May God rest her soul and comfort the family and friends.

Gravatar Image3 - This is very sad news.

Much as love my kids, I know how I take them for granted. I get frustrated with the almost constant calls for Dadda in the morning. But I can't imagine what I would do if they weren't there.

I hope caring and understanding aren't rare commodities, I don't think they are.

The arseholes who can't control their nasty urges have always existed I'm sure. It's just the Internet has given them a wider platform to demonstrate their ignorance.

From one family to another please pass on our sympathies to your friends, Tom.

Gravatar Image4 - That's very tragic and very sorry for their loss.
And you are right the comments there are pretty nasty.
I found it sad how many other people lost friends the same way, some 30 years ago and still think about it.

Gravatar Image5 - Very sorry to hear this. It really opens your eyes when you realize what life really.

As a Sufi poet once said,
"God turns you from one feeling to another and teaches you by means of opposites, so that you will have two wings to fly - not one."

We have to cherish each moment in life, even when unexpected events happen. This only bring us closer to realizing the true value of life.

Please pass my deepest regards to your friends.

Bilal
